How to Track From Which Page a Form Was Submitted On

Are you managing a website with numerous pages featuring the same form? Do you need to identify the specific page a form was submitted from? When there are multiple product pages with quote forms, you need to know which product a potential customer is interested in and wants more information on.

Or, you may want to track that special page that generated a sign-up. Either way, understanding the source page of your form submissions can provide valuable insights into user behavior and engagement patterns.

In this quick tutorial, we’ll show you how to capture the submission source page for free using the Ninja Forms plugin and a hidden field. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Add a Hidden field to your form

To add a Hidden field to your form, navigate to Ninja Forms builder > Add new field > Miscellaneous Fields. Click on the Hidden field.

As you can see, adding a Hidden field to your WordPress form or any other form field is super easy with Ninja Forms. To learn more about the Hidden field, check our article What is a Hidden Field in WordPress Forms? (Practical Examples)

Step 2: Set the Default Value of the Hidden field

Now that you have added the hidden field to your form, there is a smart way to pull the data from WordPress to your form using the Ninja Forms merge tags. The data we want to pull in is the Post URL.

Navigate to the Hidden field and see the Default Value section. Click on the merge tag icon and select WordPress. Choose the Post URL {wp:post_url} from all displayed merge tags and add it to the Default Value.

This merge tag {wp:post_url} automatically retrieves data from the WordPress page and captures information on your form without being visible to the user on the front end.

✨ Managing a multisite and looking to track the specific URL of a submission? Use the merge tag {wp:site_url} in place of the default value for the hidden field!

See? Capturing the submission source page is easy! And the best part? You can view all your submissions for free! No need for a membership plan or paid add-on.

Step 3: Access form submissions and review data for free

Now that you know how to track the page on which a form was submitted, you want to access this data and learn from it. Unlike other form builders on the market, Ninja Forms — even the free version — allows you to access your form submissions completely for free.

To view or download your form submissions for free in CSV format, navigate to your WordPress Dashboard > Ninja Forms and click on Submissions.
