Besides informative presentations, panels, and workshops, WordCamps also offer valuable opportunities to connect with the WordPress community. WP Café (specific to WordCamps in Europe) is a prime example and a fantastic way to foster collaboration at WordCamp events.
This year, WCEU organizers strive to make the café more inclusive for all attendees.
What is WP Café?
Those who’ve attended WordCamp Europe in the past may have had the chance to visit the WP Café. This relaxed area is set apart from the main event, offering a safe space for WordCampers to ask questions and learn more about WordPress. The WP Café usually includes several planned sessions covering a variety of WP topics, but visitors are also welcome to introduce their own topics for discussion.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an authentic café without plenty of coffee to go around.
Changes to WP Café in 2023
WordCamp Europe 2023, taking place in Athens, Greece, from June 8–10, will include WP Café, but organizers are implementing two fundamental changes to allow more WCEU attendees to enjoy the space.
First, the WP Café is getting a new name. Organizers realized that “café” has different connotations in different cultures. For some, the term has little to do with human connection and everything to do with hot beverages. Thus, WP Café will subsequently be called WP Connect. (Don’t worry, you can still get your caffeine fix!)
Second, previous WP Café topics were divided by experience level. For example, in 2022, the café hosted sessions like “WordPress Basics” for beginners and “Full-Site Editing” for advanced users. This year, organizers are doing away with experience levels, making every session and topic open to all visitors.
