By now, users everywhere have had the chance to experience WordPress 6.0, named Arturo after Grammy Award-winner Arturo O’Farrill. One of the most exciting aspects of Arturo is its incorporation of Gutenberg 13.0 for more seamless block-based editing. Take advantage of new blocks like the Comments Query Loop, Author’s Bio, and a Read More button.
But Arturo doesn’t stop there. Besides ushering in exciting new blocks, it also enhances the existing blocks introduced in WordPress 5.9. According to WordPress, the 6.0 release packs over 1,000 improvements since the predecessor, making the already-ambitious content management system all the more intuitive.
Learn about the updated blocks to take full advantage of new capabilities for seamless site customization.
Better Blocks
Block-based editing in the Site Editor offers detailed control over the parts and pieces that make up your site. By harnessing blocks, you have the power to transform any theme into a custom site like no other, all in service of your brand (or your client’s brand). And now, blocks are capable of even more. Updated blocks in Arturo include:
Navigation
Links in navigation menus now feature a rich preview, displaying an image of the destination when you click the link. And, in cases where you’ve only ever created one Navigation Menu, adding a new menu will automatically default to the existing menu, saving valuable time. Lastly, Navigation Links now include a description field for users to describe the link.
Cover
The updated Cover Block includes a Featured Image option, allowing you to add that page’s featured image to the block with minimal effort.
Social Icons
Set custom labels for Social Icons if you’d rather not use the default icon. This feature enables a more detailed context for your social buttons.
Query Loop
Searching for posts is easier than ever with the updated Query Loop block. New input fields allow you to search for posts using more detailed parameters. You can also filter posts by selecting multiple authors at once, which wasn’t previously possible.
Columns
WordPress 6.0 enables custom borders around the Columns block, making your content stand out.
Gallery
Improved block spacing in Gallery blocks allows you to control the spacing around single images in the block, offering complete control over layout and appearance.
Reusable Blocks
Updated Reusable Blocks include a helpful “lock” feature. Previously, any edits to a Reusable Block were saved, affecting the template. Now, you can lock these blocks. You’ll still be able to edit a Reusable Block for that instance, but it won’t update the template for future use. This is especially helpful for site builders with clients who like to make changes on their own.
Multiple Blocks
Lastly, Arturo includes several helpful enhancements when dealing with multiple blocks simultaneously. You can:
- Apply the same style settings, like typography, to multiple blocks at once
- Select text across multiple blocks
- Easily group blocks into responsive Stack or Row formations
Arturo Offers Total Control
As you can see, WordPress 6.0 — Arturo — makes the best even better by incorporating user feedback for improved UX, design, and performance. Enhancing the above blocks solves a whole host of pain points and enables total control over your site. Stay tuned for even more exciting explorations of all WP 6.0 has to offer and happy site building!
