Ninja News and Release Updates for April 2022

As the month comes to a close, our Saturday Drive Operations Team is busy finalizing the first-ever Saturday Drive Summit.  Starting next week ( May 2nd – May 6th), we will be headed to the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to bond as a team, relax, take in the surroundings and get to know one another a little better.

Believe it or not, some of us have never met in the flesh.  That’s right.  Since going distributed in 2019, we’ve brought on some fabulous team members who have never met who live all over the United States, Europe, and now India.

Don’t worry, and while we are gone, we will still be dedicating a small amount of time each day to respond to support requests 🤓

Our team announcements, anniversaries, and birthdays for the month of April.

April Work Anniversaries

Matt Prichett

It’s no joke; Matt Pritchett, our fabulous Engineer in Operations, celebrated his 3rd work anniversary with Saturday Drive on April 1st.  Shortly after he was hired and moved his family from Florida to Tennessee, Saturday Drive went distributed.  So the real April fools joke was on him 😂.  Matt is our sole Enneagram 8.  If you are subscribed to SendWP, you may have had one or two interactions with Matt.  If not, sign-up and give him a shoutout!

What success looks like for Matt

Success at Saturday Drive, for me, looks like making things better. Nothing is ever done, complete, or perfect, so success means that we are always improving. I love solving problems, so being free to do so and seeing us make improvements means I’m fulfilled and content.

How Matt prefers to receive feedback

I’d rather you give me honest and open feedback that you haven’t taken the time to “put nicely” than wait for feedback that doesn’t come because it isn’t “nice.” While I will always try to keep my feedback to others tempered by grace, I honestly don’t expect the same because I value honest feedback more than tempered feedback.

WP Career Summit

At the beginning of this month, our CEO James Laws gave the keynote address for the first-ever WP Career Summit.  See his presentation here.

TL;DR highlights

The WordPress community has a MASSIVE opportunity to change how technology companies do business.   To do so, we must take what the pandemic has made crystal clear; that loyalty must be earned and that fulfillment ( the achievement of something desired, promised, or predicted) is what EVERYONE wants.

Three questions to ask ourselves:

  1. Do I love the work I do ( the PASSION )?
If you love your work, you take pleasure in the entire journey, not just the destination. Your days are shorter, and you wonder where the time went.  You may even ( dare we say it ) have fun 🤩.

  2. Do I believe the work I do matters ( the PURPOSE )?
If the work you do matters, you are solving problems, serving others, and seeing the impact you can have.

  3. Do I see the impact my work has ( the PROGRESS )?
Each new achievement fuels the next. Progress is not about productivity; it’s about growth and development.

Job Seeker Tips – Find your next gig

  1. Help the next company you apply to see YOU on their team.
Instead of applying anywhere and everywhere, identify a few places you would LOVE to work.  Learn about their culture and how they operate.

  2. Demonstrate curiosity
Demonstrate what you know and that you are curious to learn more.

Employer Tips – Hire great talent and quality people

  1. Realize you don’t deserve employees.
Create jobs people want and a company they want to do it for.  Employees give you the most valuable commodity they will never get back – their time.

  2. Look beyond the roles and the titles and look at character and skills.
You are hiring a person.  Not everyone’s career journey looks the same.  So, keep an open mind.

  3. Don’t miss out on a great hire because of the culture fit.
Hire people for who YOU want to become, NOT for who you are 🤯
