How to Upsell with Stripe
Upselling is the practice of offering customers an additional product or service that complements their initial purchase. With Stripe, you can easily apply upsells to your customer’s subscription. Here’s how:
Step 1. Set up the Stripe add-on for Ninja Forms
Download the Stripe add-on from your Ninja Forms account, then install and activate
✨ If you don’t see it, you can get it a la carte or as part of the Pro membership.
Afterward, head over to your WordPress dashboard, hover over the Ninja Forms, and click Settings. Look for Stripe and paste in your Publishable key and Secret from your Stripe account.
Step 2. Creating an upsell in Stripe
In order to successfully create an upsell, you will need to create a product with at least two pricing structures. This can be done by creating a subscription. To learn more about setting up subscriptions, read our article on setting up recurring payments in Stripe.
You should still be logged into your Stripe account; if not, please do so now, as the rest of this section will explain steps that must be completed from within your Stripe account.
- Create a variable product with a minimum of two pricing structures.
✨ One of the pricing structures is considered the standard subscription amount; the others can be used for ‘upselling’ purposes, to provide a discount if users choose a longer-term subscription than the selected default.
- Go to your products by clicking Products from the menu bar
- Select your product by highlighting and clicking the name of the product
- For the upsell to appear, the product will need to be a variable product that meets the following criteria
- Prices must reference the same product
- Prices must have the same currency
- Prices must be recurring
- Navigate to the Pricing section, highlight the product, and click the selected product.
- Find Upsells and, click on the Find A Price field, select one of the upsell(s) that appears.
Good job! You created your very first product upsell. All that’s next is to test out your form. After that, you’ll be ready to double your revenue in no time.
Step 3. Collect a test payment with your Stripe form
Return to your form and proceed with testing. You will know everything is working if you see the upsell option after being redirected to the Stripe checkout page after submitting your form 😃
