Are you a WordPress newbie interested in learning more about design, development, or marketing? Or perhaps you’re already a pro, and you’re interested in sharing your knowledge with other users. Either way, the WordPress community thrives when its members collaborate. Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to attend a WordCamp near you, or you’ll do so in the future. But large-scale conferences aren’t the only way to get involved. For those who enjoy more casual or intimate settings, WordPress meetups are the ideal choice.
What Are Meetups?
WordPress meetups are locally-organized gatherings that take place all across the globe or online. Structures range from workshops and lectures to happy hours and other social gatherings. There is no “right way” to host a meetup — when two or more people get together to discuss WordPress-related topics, it’s considered a meetup.
These meetings are a fantastic way to get involved in your local community and exchange knowledge in a low-pressure environment. Many WordPress meetups take place in coffee shops or pubs! And, if you’re an entrepreneur or professional in the WordPress space, meetups present a valuable networking opportunity.
How to Host a Meetup
Some meetups and completely informal, and that’s great. However, some are organized through the WordPress chapter of the official Meetup.com site. This avenue requires a bit more structure but offers more visibility. You’ll probably have more attendees if you use the official site. Plus, there will be more people available to help you get organized.
Keep in mind that if you go through WordPress Meetup, your gathering should follow a few best practices, including:
- Your Meetup must be for the good of the community rather than a specific business or person
- You cannot make a profit off your Meetup
- The Meetup must be open to all

Every Contribution Counts
Whether you host your own Meetup or attend someone else’s, your contribution counts. WordPress would not be what it is today without the mutual exchange of information, ideas, and skills by its valued users. Be sure to check your local Meetup page, and join the WordPress chapter of Meetup.com to take advantage of this one-of-a-kind community.
