Gearing Up for WordPress 6.0

Blue WordPress Logo, WordPress 6.0WordPress’ second release of the year is right around the corner — packing new advancements sure to excite developers, content creators, site engineers, and more. Learn more about what to expect from WordPress 6.0, scheduled for release on May 24, 2022, so you can harness its capabilities to build and customize your picture-perfect site.

Features to Look Forward To

WordPress 6.0 will improve existing features as well as introduce some new ones. Whether you’ve had the chance to work with WP 5.9 or not, these upcoming changes will make your work faster, easier, and more intuitive.

Based on user feedback and testing, WP 6.0 takes some of the 5.9 features you already love and pushes them to greater heights. Enhanced features include:

  • Site Editor (including potentially removing the “beta” label!)
  • Global Styles
  • Navigation Blocks
  • Table of Contents Block
  • Browse Mode

Even more significant, WP 6.0 will include the all-new Gutenberg 13.0, WP’s block-based editor. This release is extra exciting considering the block themes introduced in WP 5.9.

Gutenberg 13.0 allows you to:

Select Text Fragments

Currently, if you’d like to select text within different blocks WordPress automatically highlights all the text. Going forward, you’ll have the power to select and copy specific lines of text across multiple blocks.

Easily add a Featured Image

Gutenberg 13.0’s new Cover Block will include a “Featured Image” button, so you can instantly add your featured image with one click.

Experience Responsive Block Layouts

Easily adjust your site’s blocks into Stack or Row layouts. With the upcoming release, simply select several blocks and click the Stack or Row button within the block toolbar. Plus, the layouts are responsive, changing in real-time according to screen size for an ideal UI.

Add Custom Block Borders

Using Border Control, customize each block’s borders with your preferred color, width, or style.

Use Quick-Start Patterns

Rather than starting with an overwhelming blank page, Gutenberg 13.0 includes block Patterns that give you a head start on building pages. Simply select a Pattern and then customize it to your liking.
