Create Emma Sign Up Form in WordPress

Connect your Emma account to WordPress

Our Emma add-on lets you add members to your Emma audience, allow users to opt-in via a checkbox and add new groups to your audience. But before we do all that, there are three essential things you need in order to create an Emma sign up form in WordPress:

  1. Free Ninja Forms plugin (download here)
  2. Emma account
  3. Emma add-on

Once you installed and activated the plugins, it’s time to connect your forms to Emma. If you are not sure how to proceed with the installation, make sure to check our installation instructions  (it takes less than 2 minutes).

Log in to your Emma account to access API Key & Account ID

In order to connect your forms with Emma, you need to log in to your Emma account, choose Account Settings and select the API Key tab, and Copy your Public API Key, Private API Key, and Account ID.

Authenticate Ninja Forms with Emma using your API Key & Account ID

Now that you copied your API Key & Account ID from the Emma account, go back to your WordPress dashboard (or installation) with the Ninja Forms Emma add-on

installed. Navigate to the Ninja Forms > Settings and scroll down to the Emma area. Input your Public API Key, Private API Key, and Account ID into the fields provided.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Settings. That’s it! You’ve just connected Ninja Forms to your Emma account.

Add a subscriber from your WordPress form to the Emma audience

Now that you connected your WordPress forms to your email account, you can create an Emma sign-up form and start sending your contacts to your Emma audience. From your WordPress Dashboard, navigate to Ninja Forms > Add New to access the form templates. Choose the Blank Template. form template

Create form fields in your WordPress form

First, you’ll want to create form fields in your form builder by dragging them to your form builder. You can check the list of available field types here. In our example, we created a simple form that contains an HTM field (text), the email address field, and submit button.

When creating your sign-up form with Ninja Forms, you should know our form builder is designed to inherit the style of your WordPress theme to match your page aesthetically. Therefore, If you want to tweak the style of your forms, you can use the Layout & Styles add-on and customize your form to your liking.

Below is the example of the signup form we created using our styling add-on. We changed the font size and font family and we also customized the submit button and border of the email field.

Add an Emma action to your sign-up form

If you installed the Emma add-on, you will see the Emma action under the Installed section. Add an Emma action under the Emails & Actions.

To enable it, click the Emma action. Once you click on the enabled action, you will see a list field. Here, you’ll want to select the list to which you want to send your contacts.

With your list selected, the fields from your Emma list will populate below under the List Field Mapping section. You’ll need to map these fields to the corresponding fields on your Ninja Form using the merge tags for those fields via the merge tag icon on the right of each Emma field.

Subscribe contacts via the Emma Opt-in field

Make sure you leave the default value Unchecked. Pre-checked boxes are not allowed as they are not considered to be valid consent under GDPR.

If the Emma Opt-in field is checked by a user, the Emma Action will be processed and the user will be added to the list in your Emma account. If the Opt-in is unchecked, the Emma Action will be ignored.
